세팍타크로 라이프 :: 인도네시아에서 개최 될 아시안 비치 게임을 바라보면서...

올해 11월 인도네시아 발리에서 비치 세팍타크로가 열린다고 발표가 확정되면서 새로운 이벤트 탄생에 흥미를 갖게 되었다.

하지만 실상을 들여다보면 전망은 밝지가 않다. 8월 4일 외신의 보도에 의하면 현재 스폰서를 구하지 못해 안절부절하지 못하고 있다.

동남아시아는 해양 스포츠를 즐기기에 아주 적합하며 비치 스포츠를 발전하기에 가능성이 엿보인다. 그래서 올해 처음으로 인도네시아에서 아시안 비치 게임을 추진하였으며 스포츠 강국인 한국, 중국, 일본을 포함하여 35-45개국이 참가 의사를 밝혔다.

비치 게임 handball, kabaddi, pencak silat, sepaktakraw, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, bodybuilding, dragon boat racing, jet skiing, marathon swimming, paragliding, sailing, surfing, triathlon, windsurfing and woodball로 17개 종목이 선정되었으며 kabaddi, wrestling, pencak silat은 재 조정될 필요가 있다고 한다.

종목을 자세히 살펴보면 해변과 바다에서 펼쳐지는 경기에 세팍타크로와 카바디, 레슬링과 같은 경기가 어떻게 포함될 수 있을지 의문스럽다. 비치 게임하면 말그대로 물과 밀접한 스포츠로써 전문 해양 스포츠 게임으로 성장할 수 있게 발판을 마련했으면 하는 바램이다.

요즘은 가시적인 프로그램 갖고는 절대로 스폰서를 구할 수가 없다. 전문화되고 차별화된면서 특별한 매리트를 갖으면서 확실한 비젼을 보여주지 못하는 대회와 게임은 단일성에 그칠 수 밖에 없다. 미래의 스포츠로 각광 받을 수 있는 분야가 해양 스포츠와 비치 스포츠라는 것은 틀림없는 사실이다.

이런 사실을 볼 때 아시안 비치 게임의 탄생은 매우 환영 받을 수 있고 미래지향적이라고 할 수 있다. 해양 스포츠의 꽃은 바로 요트 스포츠이다. 아시는 분은 아시겠지만 선진국 대열에 가까워 질 수록 골프가 아닌 요트를 타고 즐기는 시대가 도래할 것이다.

요트 스포츠는 자동차 스포츠 포뮬러 F1에 견줄만한 스포츠 산업으로써 바다로 둘려싸여 있는 우리나라에 적합한 해양 스포츠라고 생각한다. 예견하겠는데 골프의 시대가 끝나면 요트와 같은 해양 스포츠가 발전할 것으로 보여진다. 말이 약간 샌것 같은데 어째거나 아시안 비치 게임이 성공리에 잘 치루어 새로운 해양 스포츠 장을 열어나가길 바란다.

덧) 해양 스포츠와 비치 게임의 최대의 적은 바로 날씨이며 요트 스포츠는 아직까지 우리나라에 잘 소개되지 않았다. 요트 게임의 대명사는 아메리카스 컵이라 참가 우승국이 대회 개최권을 갖고 가며 부가가치는 백만달러 이상이다. 현재 두바이에서 작년 우승국 스위스에게 백지 수표를 제시하면 아메리카스 컵을 개최하려고 하고 있다. 아이러니컬하게 스위스는 바다가 없는데도 두번이나 우승을 거머쥐었다.

Sponsors still lacking for beach games in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Organizers of the Asian Beach Games which will be held in the next three months said that they are still short of sponsors in what is being billed as the first beach sporting showcase ever held in the world, the Jakarta Post reported here Monday.

Organizers have announced they were still looking for sponsors to fund the event, whose budget was recently slashed from 316 billion rupiah (34.3 million U.S. dollars) to 200 billion rupiah (some 21.7 million U.S. dollars).

"We don't have any sponsors yet, so if there are any parties interested in sponsorship, it will help us a lot," Djoko Pramono, sports director of the Bali Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee said.

Despite lacking in funds, Djoko said the event, which features 17 sports, would run as scheduled from October 18 to 26.

Among the more familiar competitions will be beach volleyball, beach soccer, sailing and surfing.

Other sports, such as kabaddi (a traditional Indian team sport), woodball, wrestling and pencak silat (traditional Indonesian martial arts), will need some adjustment to be played on sand.

Djoko said 37 of 45 Asian countries and regions, including Asian sports powerhouses China, South Korea, 2012 host Oman and Thailand, have confirmed their participation in the Games.

"The most popular sport is volleyball, with teams from 27 countries taking part in it, followed by bodybuilding with 25 teams," he said. Djoko, who is also in charge of the Indonesian contingent's training camp, said Indonesian athletes began preparing in Bali on Friday to get accustomed to performing in sand. Indonesia will field 214 athletes to compete in all 17 sports.

He added Indonesia was looking to win medals in seven sports, including pencak silat, beach volleyball and bodybuilding.

The 17 sports included in the Asian Beach Games are handball, kabaddi, pencak silat, sepaktakraw, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, bodybuilding, dragon boat racing, jet skiing, marathon swimming, paragliding, sailing, surfing, triathlon, windsurfing and woodball.(www.chinaview.cn 2008-08-04 14:36:36 )
